What is a life cycle assessment (LCA)?

An LCA is the process of assessing the environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product's life – in other words, from raw material extraction to disposal or recycling. The life cycle assessment of a product is required for any manufacturer looking to develop an environmental product declaration (EPD).

Participate in the BHMA® Certification Program by voluntarily submitting a hardware product to independent laboratory testing to confirm that it fully meets the criteria of the appropriate ANSI/BHMA® standard. This industry-wide certification program does not call for a manufacturer to be a BHMA® member in order to certify its products.
