Ralph Vasami, Esq has a broad background in engineering, business management, operations, finance, strategic planning and law. He is actively involved with leading clients’ efforts to modify and enhance national building codes, and is regularly called upon to facilitate client strategic planning meetings.

Ralph is a pioneer in the vinyl window and door industry. As chairman of the Vinyl Window & Door Institute, he was responsible for gaining model building code acceptance for vinyl as a fenestration product. He was also instrumental in setting up testing and standards for the products as well as the current industry certification program.

Ralph received a Bachelor of Science degree from New York University and a law degree from Pace University. He is a member of the New York State Bar.

Tim Bennett has been program manager with BHMA® for over ten years overseeing member services, including recruitment and retention, the Certified Products Directory listings program, logistics for the BHMA® in-person strategic and technical meetings, and marketing and sales of BHMA® standards documents.  Prior to joining Kellen, Tim held various positions in academic and scholarly publishing including five years licensing IT and computing publication for a professional association.

Since joining BHMA® in 2015 as Program Manager, Larry works alongside Tim Bennett as the main conduit for BHMA® in regards to the Certification program, BHMA® membership, coordination of BHMA® in-person meetings and other administrative work that is necessary to carry out tasks aligned with the BHMA® vision and its objectives.  Larry came to BHMA® after working in the field of Intellectual Disabilities, having managed multiple classrooms and staff. He brings to BHMA® the valuable skills that he mastered in the educational setting to help classrooms run effectively and to meet expectations set by government guidelines and regulations.

For 20 years, Michael has served as the Product Standards Director for BMHA®, where he coordinated the development and revision of the BHMA® performance standards for building hardware products.

Michael came to BHMA® following a 20-year career in manufacturing management at United Technologies, Honeywell, Black and Decker and Yale Security. He is a principal member on technical committees for the National Fire Protection Association; the A117.1 Committee for Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities, and ASTM.

John is Director of Codes & Regulatory Affairs. In this capacity, he provides building codes, advocacy and technical services on behalf of several Kellen clients. In addition to his role with the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA®), John also provides his expertise to the Composite Lumber Manufacturers Association (CLMA) and the Extruded Polystyrene Foam Association (XPSA).

The result of his long-standing involvement in the ICC code development process has been several revisions and updates to locking arrangements in the means of egress and corresponding requirements in the 2015 and 2018 I-codes.

John has a mechanical engineering degree from Iowa State University and a MBA from the University of Iowa.  He is a member of the International Code Council (ICC), the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) and ASTM International.

Karen has extensive technical and managerial experience in the commercial openings industry. Before joining BHMA®, Karen served as a senior engineer for product certification, development and testing at the Allegion Hollow Metal Group.

She also served as a senior engineer for new product development at Steelcraft. Karen has held leadership roles at several associations, including Steel Door Institute and National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturers, among others.

David has five-plus years of management consulting experience with a focus in business process improvement and operational strategy.  He has been managing the BHMA®-CPD project since June, 2018 and brings to BHMA® his experience leading association accreditation programs.  As CPD Program Manager for BHMA®, David is responsible for overseeing the redesign process of the Certified Products Database (CPD). Some of the main changes incorporated into the new CPD include an intuitive searchable feature for certified product data, integration of an online submission portal and active tracking capabilities for both certification/expiration dates and private label relationships. David is a member of the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and has a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in History from Dickinson College.

Emily is a Program Manager for BHMA®, supporting the standards development program.  Currently Emily coordinates BHMA® standards publication, bringing her experience as a manager of a wide array of associations and not-for-profits. She is a graduate of Ithaca College, earning both a BS in marketing and an MBA.

For the last 25 years, Bonnie has been developing and directing integrated marketing programs for global firms such as Steelcase, Burlington Industries and Stoheim. Currently, Bonnie manages the BHMA® Commercial and Residential sections, which includes its thought leadership programs, website development, branding, crisis planning, media outreach, social media, public affairs, and events and the launch of the residential programs brand. Bonnie also manages numerous other associations in the building and construction industry.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and Political Science from Syracuse University and a Master of Science in Public Relations Communications and Administration from the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.

 Wendy has more than 20 years of integrated marketing communications experience in both Public Relations (PR) agency, association and not-for-profit settings, having worked for top PR agencies in New York and served for several years as Director of Media at a global nonprofit organization.  She brings to BHMA® her extensive communications experience in the building and construction industry where she has worked with such prominent architects as David Rockwell and construction companies such as Toll Brothers.  She holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from Colby College and a Master of Science degree in Public Relations from Boston University.

Get Certified

Participate in the BHMA® Certification Program by voluntarily submitting a hardware product to independent laboratory testing to confirm that it fully meets the criteria of the appropriate ANSI/BHMA® standard.  This industry-wide certification program does not call for a manufacturer to be a BHMA® member in order to certify its products.
