BHMA® + PCRs

Monday, March 25, 2019

Recognizing that there was no credible, uniform way to compare the environmental impact of builders’ hardware products, BHMA® took the initiative to develop a Product Category Rule (PCR) for this product category which allows builders’ hardware manufacturers to develop EPDs and, in turn, better meet the growing sustainability needs of the building industry. The resulting builders’ hardware PCRs meet all requirements applicable for products made for use in North America and are aligned with the corresponding PCR developed for European builders’ hardware. Specifying architects seeking information about the impact that building materials have on the environment are frequent customers of BHMA® members. In many cases, those seeking LEED and other certifications consider building products based on their EPD or environmental product declaration (EPD).

Get Certified

Participate in the BHMA® Certification Program by voluntarily submitting a hardware product to independent laboratory testing to confirm that it fully meets the criteria of the appropriate ANSI/BHMA® standard.  This industry-wide certification program does not call for a manufacturer to be a BHMA® member in order to certify its products.
