Thayer Long is an accomplished executive and has led trade associations in both standalone and AMC structures for over 15 years as President and CEO.

He serves as Executive Vice President for Kellen’s Industrial and Manufacturing practice.  Prior to joining Kellen, he served in prominent leadership positions including nine years as the Executive Vice-President and CEO of the Independent Electrical Contractors Association (IEC), six years as the President of the Association for Print Technologies, (APTech), and four years as President and CEO of the Manufactured Housing Institute (MHI).

He began his career at the American Chemical Society (ACS) and then went on to serve multiple roles for the National Association of Homebuilders (NAHB), including chapter management and relations, and state and local political operations.

He is a graduate of Davidson College. He is originally from outside of Philadelphia, PA and currently resides in Arlington, VA with his wife and son.

Karen has extensive technical and managerial experience in the commercial openings industry. Before joining BHMA®, Karen served as a senior engineer for product certification, development and testing at the Allegion Hollow Metal Group.

She also served as a senior engineer for new product development at Steelcraft. Karen has held leadership roles at several associations, including Steel Door Institute and National Association of Architectural Metal Manufacturers, among others.

Tony joined BHMA in 2024. Previously working in door hardware manufacturing, he focused ‎mainly in the areas of product testing and development. During this time, he was also a ‎BHMA member, participating and chairing in the development of new and current ‎standards. In addition to the door hardware industry, Tony has also worked in the ‎standards driven industries of military and medical. Bringing along knowledge of their ‎approach to standardization.‎

Joe is an engineer with extensive experience in code development and compliance, having spent much of his career at Pella Corporation and holding leadership roles in FGIA, NFRC, and IGMA. He also brings valuable experience with ICC and key state code bodies.

Heather Currier has worked with a variety of building, design and construction clients during her 17+ years in association marketing and communications. The depth and variety of her experience means she can create innovative solutions for her clients’ communications programming. As Director of Communications, Heather manages marketing strategy, annual meeting promotion, website strategy and redesign, rebranding and logo designs, and social media strategy and implementation. She has extensive experience in editorial and publications management, antitrust related issues and statistical data collection. Heather graduated from Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature. She currently lives in Chicago with her husband, and dog Ferris.

Mariel Nelson serves as a Program Manager for BHMA. She manages BHMA membership, meeting registrations, special projects, and the website. Mariel came to BHMA after working for Worldwide Responsible Apparel Production (WRAP), a non-profit that created compliance standards for fashion brands and manufacturers.

Participate in the BHMA® Certification Program by voluntarily submitting a hardware product to independent laboratory testing to confirm that it fully meets the criteria of the appropriate ANSI/BHMA® standard.  This industry-wide certification program does not call for a manufacturer to be a BHMA® member in order to certify its products.
