BHMA Highlights New Initiatives at June Meeting

Residential program and product category rules will be focus of summer meeting

NEW YORK, NY (May 9, 2013) – The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) will hold its annual Summer Technical Committee Week June 17th to 19th in Chicago, IL at the InterContinental Chicago. While the organization’s summer meeting typically emphasized technical issues, industry leaders will also meet to discuss BHMA’s new initiatives.

Marketing and standards committees will plan for the next steps in the ongoing BHMA Residential Program, which has released the first exclusively residential standards for bored locks and deadbolts. Additionally, the application of the builders hardware Product Category Rules will be addressed.

“Members will get an in-depth look at how to utilize the new builders hardware Product Category Rules when creating Environmental Product Declarations during a special informational session,” said Ralph Vasami, BHMA’s Executive Director. “This comes as BHMA increases its focus on the increasing demand for verifiable sustainable building products.”

Technical committees will hold sessions to update standards for electromagnetic locks and power operated doors.

About BHMA

The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) is an industry leader in building safety and security. BHMA is the only organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop and maintain performance standards for locks, closers, exit devices and other builders hardware. The widely known ANSI/BHMA A156 series of standards describes and establishes the features and criteria for specific types of hardware products. In addition, BHMA sponsors third-party certification of hardware products, which is a requirement for a product to bear the “BHMA Certified” mark — ensuring that the product meets the ANSI/BHMA standard.
