BHMA Publishes Updates to ANSI/BHMA Standards
The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association continues dedication to improving industry products

NEW YORK (August 22, 2017) – The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) today announces the publication of its latest revision to ANSI/BHMA 156.10 Standard for Power Operated Pedestrian Doors, which has been approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI).
“As the sole organization accredited by ANSI to develop and maintain performance standards for architectural hardware, part of our mission here at BHMA is to continuously improve builders hardware products to help protect and secure the welfare and safety of the general public,” said Ralph Vasami, BHMA Executive Director. “As new technologies emerge, our product standards must evolve to meet the needs of both the public and of our industry.”
Changes in this edition include:
  • The addition of sensor monitoring requirements in 7.6.1 and 8.1.4, and related definitions;
  • The creation of a new Appendix (E-6) for monitoring;
  • Changes to signage height;
  • Updates to Appendix A drawings;
  • Numerous editorial changes and clarifications.
All of the changes listed above will go into effect on November 11, 2017, 90 days from the publication of the standard.

This is the third standard in the BHMA 156 Series to have seen revisions this summer. In June, BHMA published revisions to ANSI/BHMA A156.2 Bored & Preassembled Locks and Latches and ANSI/BHMA A156.13 Mortise Locks. Changes to A156.13 included several clarifications and improvements to the test methods, while A156.2 saw more significant changes – including increasing the number of cycles required for Grades 2 and 3 – in addition to several clarification and improvements to test methods.

The full scope for each ANSI/BHMA standard can be found on the BHMA website at http://buildershardware.com/bhma-standards. For more information on ANSI/BHMA standards, please contact Tim Bennett at tbennett@kellencompany.com.
