NEW YORK (March 3, 2013)— The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) will hold its annual Spring Technical Committee Week from March 31–April 2 in Fort Lauderdale, FL at the Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Hotel, with technical sessions centered around the addition of two new standards and the updates of four others that are scheduled for revision during the year 2015.

The first Technical Committee Week to be held after the launch of BHMA’s first two residential standards, the spring meeting will include discussions about a new standard for water penetration, as well as a new standard for battery powered locks. The agenda also includes the revision of the following existing standards:

·         A156.18 Materials and Finishes

·         A156.23 Electromagnetic Locks

·         A156.10 Power Operated Doors

“For 90 years, the Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association has been dedicated to improving life safety and security in buildings,” said BHMA Executive Director, Ralph Vasami. “Continuing to improve standards and to develop new standards for all of our product categories is crucial when it comes to achieving this mission.”

About BHMA

The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) is an industry leader in building safety and security. BHMA is the only organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop and maintain performance standards for locks, closers, exit devices and other builders hardware. The widely known ANSI/BHMA A156 series of standards describes and establishes the features and criteria for specific types of hardware products. In addition, BHMA sponsors third-party certification of hardware products, which is a requirement for a product to bear the “BHMA Certified” mark — ensuring that the product meets the ANSI/BHMA standard.
